Burdock Woes

The baby is growing like a weed! He is getting taller. The other day we let all 3 into the barnyard and didn't really think but it was full of burdock. The poor thing still has them caught in the fur of his belly. His mama has chewed off most of them. He is so good to stand there for me and not buck and let me work them off of him- knowing full well I am pulling his fur. He looks like one of those hamsters with the funky fur with his patches of missing fur.

Tomorrow is supposed to rain all day-- it will be a long day for them...in the barn. They don't suffer there- most donkeys or horses get a stall. These guys have the whole back of the barn open to them-- they also have their big pen and we have a corner of the back of the barn open to them- there are no real walls- just gates and a roof. All the hay and water they could want. And me coming out to see then a couple times a day! Oh and the radio- I have started playing Classical music for them.

Just because he is 5 weeks old- there is no point in having him get chilled in the rain all day- he will be better off in the barn. Lillie gets a little stir crazy in the barn- but that is only because she likes the fresh grass in the barnyard. Murphy is so easy going- any thing is fine with him- as long as he gets a carrot or two- he is a happy guy.

I will add more pix soon.

  1. Hi ~~ Poor sweet baby. This must have been a tedious task for sure. I hope all is well now.

I was just at a garage, or should I say "stable" sale last Friday and boy was it a nice building. I'm sure your "family" will appreciate being out of the impending rain.

Thank you for visiting my blog and for becoming a follower. Have you registered with Blotanical? It's the best way I know of to "meet" like-minded bloggers.

  2. Burdocks are such a pain! Our daughter's sheep are covered in them. Baby Morgan is so sweet :)
We have a 3 week old calf that gets "lost" in the tall grass. I used to worry when I didn't see her all day...but she's there. I just wasn't looking at the right time apparently. She's usually right near her mommy somewhere. I shouldn't have worried because her mom was not concerned at all.
We're in the Leatherstocking region too. I wonder how close we are to each other.
Yes, it's going to be a wet one tomorrow. Sounds like it'll be quite a deluge. I might have to break down and vacuum since I won't be gardening:(
Thanks for visiting and saying hello. Nice to "meet" you :)

  3. Oh it really is horrible when it rains all day and they have to be cooped up in the barn, and then it's so muddy. Yuck. I am always surprised how many of the donkeys still spend time outside in the pouring rain at the DSC.
Your cute Murphy looks like a character...I am so in love lol..he is adorable.
