Well- it is snowing again.. this is the weekend of the Nor' Easter hitting New England. We will only get 8 inches out of it.. those other places are expecting 2 feet. Better them than us.. As much as I like snow.. I am so ready for spring. I have a countdown on my PC.
So... We have a psycho Rabbit. He is a brown one.. sorta big... he comes towards the light when you shine a flashlight on it.. that is somewhat scary. The other night I watched as he tried to climb a tree.. he was on his hind legs and hanging onto a branch, above his head and using his back legs to climb. I am pretty sure this is not normal behavior for a bunny. I really don't want him near me. And he brings his friends to play... they don't appear to be afraid of the dogs- silly rabbits.
One of the dogs caught a mole or a mouse yesterday and had lunch. Wonderful. Now they both are in hunting mode when I let them out. And come in and want to lick your face.. Yuk. This better end by spring... I hate when they dig holes in the lawn. Some years the lawn looks like Swiss cheese.
The donkeys are fine. The get outside most days, only to torment the yearling calves. The calves huddle in a corner while the Donkeys eat their hay. Yesterday, I did notice that there are 3 or 4 of them, who just brave the donks and eat on their side of the big bale and try to ignore the donkeys. Hardly anyone got out today- it was very windy and snowy. My donkeys do not like wind.
The new crop of this years calves will soon join last years calves with the donkeys. March 1st we think. We didn't sell any calves last year due to poor market and the over abundance of beef in the market due to all the slaughter from last year in the midwestern USA due to drought... it just brought prices way down. Our new calves will be due end of March/April.
CorrieBeth and Hope will hang with the calves again this year. They were both bottle fed and are smaller than the others of the same age. Well Poor Hopey-- she is seriously like a midget calf. She is 3+1/2 and we have yearlings bigger than her! She is too small to breed.. she will stay with the Donkeys until she gets bigger- or forever. She is the only one who is not afraid of them. She is a pet who does know her name and will come if called. CorrieBeth was born with horns, bottle fed also- we had her horns taken off last year as she is also a pet. The girls were raised together.
Well I am off to sew. Stay warm everyone..
I have never heard of a rabbit climbing a tree before how very strange! I hope the worst of the snowstorm passes you. We have just seen it on our news affected Canada and NE USA. Sarah x
ReplyDeleteGoodness I have never heard of a rabbit climbing a tree. I think I would stay clear too.
ReplyDeleteI keep reading about all the bad weather you all are having but then I think of my sunny little area and I realize how different and weird our weather has been the last 4 years.
Our winter had hard freezes when we should have had snow and rain. Our Area need the winter rains to get us through the summer. I think we will have way too many fires this year.
Hope your spring comes soon.
cheers, parsnip
