So it has been awhile since I have checked in here.
The winter has been normal for the most part. Animals are fine.
The bitter cold of the season, I think bothers us humans more than the animals. On a sunny day like today- the cows are out sunning themselves. The donkeys are in the barn.
Last week calf #23 (her new name is Lucy).. got herself stuck in the feeder twice. Not pretty. The first time she got pinned between the big round bale of hay and the bars.. I had to get a neighbor over to help me free her-- that took some time- he had to come with his tractor and we made a sling for her and got her upright and out.
Then 2 days later-- she was in the feeder again ( you would have thought she would have remembered and stayed out!).. she got her front feet on one side of the feeder and her back feet on the other side and was trapped. That time it only took a few minutes to get her free..
She is now in protective custody in a pen in the barn where she is with the 3 bottle fed ones and living it up! ( they have all the hay and water and dryness that they could want!). She has not missed her mom who does come by to talk to her. She is old enough to be weaned.
Tinkerbelle is still here.. which I am glad for and I have a new stray that showed up. Kringle.. they are best friends now. He is very friendly..Like others the minute I name them- they decide I am okay and get friendly.
Temps today were 14f and sunny-- it feels like a heat wave!
Stay Warm!
I was wondering how you and the farm animals were doing ? The winter has been so cold to much of the US. So I was very happy to see your post today.
ReplyDeleteTucson has been very beautiful and much too warm. We need our winter rains or we will on fire this summer.
