Recently we went to a Pot Luck Indoor Picnic. I do not do well at them. I have a hard time eating at them. I can eat food prepared by someone who I know. I don't have a problem with that. I have a hard time with "stranger" food. I can eat in a restaurant. But after this last time.. I might never be able to eat at a Pot Luck of any sort .
So we get there and thank goodness, I was helping set some of the dishes out on the table. And this one family gets there and they have a cake... it looks fine.. a little lumpy. So, someone nearby asks them-- why is it lumpy.. The lady-- who mind you is very well put together with her hubby and kids -- all clean and combed.. says in a calm voice.." oh... well I made the cake , had it on the counter and the Cat walked on it... we just spooned out where she walked and frosted over it. The low spots are where we cut it out". YUK.
Okay-- So, I have cats and they have done similar... but it is one thing for me to cut out the parts and eat it at home... It is NOT okay to subject the rest of us to your cat print cake. Does your cat have fleas? and how do you know you got all the cake part out? did she sneeze on it where she was there? was she just in the litter box before she stepped on the cake? Why would someone bring a cake like that to a gathering????
Then you have the people who see nothing wrong with double dipping... really?? or the people who sneeze and cough on the food. (is it any wonder I have a hard time eating at these things??). Or the people who don't wash their hands and instead of pouring chips out of the bag-- reach their dirty hands into the bag? (after they have just blown their nose or worse).
And don't get me started on the people who prepare your food and then touch money without wearing gloves- or have the gloves on for the food and don't take them off for the money.
I think I just do better preparing my own meal with clean hands and eating at home. Lol.
I have found the answer to this is to take your own casserole and fill your plate, along with a bun that you could spirit in via a pocket and napkin.... Of course you have to be one of the first at the table, or you may find your delicious dish has disappeared....
